Workplace Vehicle & Transport Safety

Institution of Occupational Safety and Health International Institute of Risk and Safety Management Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management

Overview
Research indicates that 90% of all workplaces have had workplace transport accidents within the last year, this demonstrates that it is a key area for consideration in improving safety. Whilst the principal & general requirements for managing health & safety are clearly defined in the various Regulations, the requirements and associated standards to be achieved are much less clear for vehicles; with the operator of the site [the first port of call in an official vehicle accident investigation] often unsure of compliance standards.

This course will address the issues arising from the use of vehicles as a routine part of the work process and also the management of all vehicle movements of any category within a work-site - in particular, the design and management of effective vehicular routes and their segregation from pedestrians.

Workplace transport includes any vehicle or piece of mobile equipment, used by employers, employees, self-employed people or visitors in any work setting. The programme is designed to outline and develop different techniques for auditing organisations in relation to vehicle movement and use in the workplace, and the development of risk assessments for the range of issues faced in your organisation.

Key vehicle movement types and categories considered will include;
• Goods and other vehicles entering, moving, loading and unloading on your premises and sites.
• Delivery and service vehicles, whether your own or contractors, on your or clients premises.
• Company fleet management and use of vehicles on company business by your employees.
• Reducing the risk of vehicle incidents through the development of risk assessments.

This course will also assist in the development or improvement in your organisation of a safe system of work for workplace vehicle management, including detailed consideration of a range of different control measures, including; Pedestrian safety, Traffic routes, Vehicle safety, Safety measures and signs, Safe systems of work, Training and selection and Personal protective equipment.
